Cuff - Roll Your Jeans -- DIY Boyfriend Jeans

They are all over the magazines.  Rolled/cuffed Jeans.  Want a great way to do it yourself?
Do the 1950's Roll/Cuff.

Take a pair of jeans right out of your closet.  They do not need to be pencil leg.  In fact, a small boot cut, or a jean that is a little loose is best.

Pinch the pant in the  middle.
Hold the pinch and roll once.
Roll twice, and even 3 times.
If you prefer you can straighten the pinch.  I leave it pinched, as I am usually using a slight boot cut and want to make it a little straighter.

You can also, pinch the back, if you prefer the bunch in the back.
Roll at least twice, three times works best, these will stay cuffed all day long.

Once you get good at it.  You can do it on your legs.

Summer here you come.  Grab your flats, heesl, flip flops, whatever.  You are good to go.

Best part, you didn't have to buy a thing.  Save your money for something else.

I love art.

Cornbread Muffin Corn Dogs

I have had so many cooking fails over the last week.  I mean total fail, feed the trash can kind of cooking.  That is why, I was happy this worked for me.

I had seen these on the Pioneer Woman (she made homemade cornbread) I knew I had to try them.

I took a box of Jiffy Cornbread mix from the grocery store, (1 egg and milk needed).  Made the cornbread, cut the hot dogs, and cooked.

Yum.  Now, there is one caveat, I like a little more hot dog, so maybe I should make bigger pieces of hot dogs, or just fry up some extra to eat on the side.  Queso or chili would be great on the side of these.

Recipe at bottom.

Below, cooked in stand alone muffin cups.
They really were good.  These are the foil muffin cups that you just sit on a sheet pan, a muffin pan would work too.
Hot dogs covered with batter. Ready to cook.
Before covering with batter. I wonder if I could of put two pieces side by side?  Like I said, I wanted a little more hot dog with mine.
So simple.
Make cornbread.
Cut hot dogs into pieces.
Put a bit of batter in bottom of muffin cup.
Put a piece of hot dog in batter.
Cover with batter, going about halfway up the muffin cup.
Cook according to cornbread directions.
Enjoy.

Outdoor Porch Updates - Lights - Curtains - Doors

It is that time of year again, where everyone is thinking of updating their outdoor space.  Even if you just have a small patio, or just your front door where you enter and exit, a small update can make you smile.

This is our large portal (southwest and all).  It has globe lights, and curtains.  The curtains are just Wallyworld cotton curtains, we got about 4 years out of them, and last year took them down.  I am undecided if I will put them back up or not.

This is a view of our large portal/porch.  I love the all beige uniform color.  Since it is an old house 1947, it has 2 different back doors.  Instead of replacing them, serious cost, I painted them to match the stucco.  They kind of disappear.  I remember the work in painting them, now about that black door I want.  Do I really want to commit to painting?  Yes, I do!  Now for some warm weather without the 50 mile an hour winds.

Before blue doors.

After tan/beige doors

A fan to blow in the breeze is nice too.

Think candles, chairs, fans, do something for yourself this weekend.  Enjoy.

My Weekend Inspiration - House Beautiful

Thank you House Beautiful for my weekend inspiration.  Hopefully my allergies won't get the best of me and I can do some projects.  The mulberry is in full bloom in the southwest and makes for horrible allergies.

But, if I can get the time, I would love a black front door.

Notice the chair and basket, great if you have a mail slot in your wall, or a landing area for keys, etc.
This kitchen makes me smile.  I love the black cabinets, and the fact that they are old, and not perfect.  Thank you, for showing theese.
Loving this dining room, although the chairs are not my style.  What I am really loving is the natural shades on the windows.  I am really coveting these.  I may have to hit Wallyworld and price out.  Don't hate, I have 13 windows in my house, and 4 of them are over 120 inches wide.  Do the math, expensive.  So, I think for a bit I will window shop.
Enjoy your Friday inspiration.  All pictures House Beautiful.

I am currently working on a Slow Cooker Lasagna.  Hope it works, and yes, you can ruin things in a slow cooker, I have more than once.  Don't judge.

Dog Proofing

I call this "Getting Ready for Layla".

My daughter's dog is coming to visit me for a week.  Yay Layla (yep, I will post some pics).  Anyway, I am dog proofing.  You know, putting up things that might be appetizing, or look like a play toy.  In addition, just covering some furniture.  This time of year in the southwest, it is windy, dusty, and full of elm seeds, and I want to be able to quickly get rid of the dirt etc.

Pic below is my padded headboard -- still love it.

While getting ready for Layla, I decided to cover my bed with an old white sheet, again, ease and convenience for cleaning.  I think I look the look of a white bed. Hmmmm.
Yep, she likes that chair to look out and watch the world go by.  Chair, ready.
She loves to lay on the ottoman, it is getting a little old and haggard and I have contemplated making a cover for it.
So, I grabbed some fabric from another part of the house, and quickly hand sewed the sides to themselves and made a quick cover for it.  Just layed it over, and folded the sides, sewed them at their meeting point and tucked under the rest.  Ignore the splotches -- light glare.

I think I like it, now to find some fabric and give it a real looking cover, not sure what would work.  But for the week, it will do. Oh, and ignore all the dust on the floor, I give up with the 50 mile an hour winds.
How do you dog proof?  Admit it, I know you put blankets and sheets on your furniture.

Stacking Art

The reality is I love art.  All kinds of art.  I like to mix/match, originals, posters, things from my past, you name it.

Art doesn't just have to be on the walls.  You can stack it against a long wall and make a whole display.  Take a cue from Art Galleries, they stack art all the time.

Art below is in my guest room, it takes up most of a wall.  I love it.

Now, if you have small children, this probably isn't for you.

Healthy Pita Pizza - Easy and Fast

I love pizza.  But, I need a lower carb healthier option.
Love this one.  Perfect for leftovers.

Wheat Pita Pockets.
Your choice of toppings.
Heat in oven until hot and bubbly.
I ususally do 425 degrees.

I made pepperoni, a tomato margarita, and good old left over chicken with bbq as the sauce.
Yum.
Back to regular DIY next week.  Hang in -- great stuff coming.

Comfort Food - Chicken Noodles -- Skinny Girl Margaritas

Guilty food pleasures.
So what are your guilty food pleasures?  You know, your home alone, the hubs or significant is out of town, or out for the night, what do you choose?

Years ago, dating myself, I loved the Kraft Chicken Dinners.  They came in a box like Macaroni and Cheese.  My local store doesn't carry them, so I went on the look for something similar.

Knor, makes a Pasta Side Chicken, pretty respectable and pretty close.

When I made it it brought back all the memories of my childhood, the smell, the Friday Nights, asking for it, the hanging around the TV and visiting with my Dad, all those comfort memories.

Now, I know, it isn't cool to talk about grungy comfort food, after all healthy eating is King.

But, you know, every once in awhile, it is a great treat.

Being a grown up, I added a Skinny Girl Margarita to the side of mine.  Love them.

So, comfort on America, just do it in moderation.

Enjoy your Friday.  I am enjoying mine.

Still Obsessed with Fur and Leopard - Cheetah

I am still obsessed with Fur and Leopard and Cheetah.  What can I say?  Love it.  I may end up an old Peggy Bundy pouring myself into my fur, leopard, and cheetah.  But, for right now, how about some more for my home?

Loving the fur chairs below from Style at Home.

 Via Style at Home.

Yes, to Elle Decore and those wonderful chairs.
Yes please, I need an animal print couch.
Old leather, animal prints and the art, what can I say except oh Yes.
I may have to find a way to add some more animal print to my house.
Hmmmmmmm.

Easy Ceasar Pasta Salad

Easy breezy Ceasar Pasta Salad.

My amazing daughter got me hooked on the Suddenly Salad Ceasar Pasta Salad.

I decided to try and make my own version.

Simple and easy.  Take any kind of pasta you want.  Add any kind of add ins you want, (pepperoni, olives, tomatoes, avacados, garbanzo beans, cheeses, use your imagination) top with some parmesan cheese , (I like the good old fashioned out of a green can), and some --(I used Fat Free Kraft Ceasar Italian.), use any kind of Ceasar you like.

Can I just say YUM.

I also made it, and topped it with croutons.

Super yummy.

Best thing about pasta, you can freeze it if you don't use it all.  Or it keeps in the refrigerator for a few days.  I make a full bag of pasta, then drain, rinse well with cold water (to get the starch off -- so it won't stick together), then put in a ziploc in the fridge, and use as I need.

What is your go to food?

Easy Clean-Up Walk Around Straightening

Today I am doing what I call "Walk Around Straightening"!.

It is exactly what it is.  I walk room to room, and find objects that are not where they belong and put them away.  Sadly this can take more than an hour.  I also will throw away trash, and any extra objects that have become useless.

Sadly, I could do this every day and never be fully done.  But, it is a good trick.  Try it.
Then, you can clean.  I normally run out of steam at this point.

How do you straighten?  Clean?  Suggestions.

Enjoy this great picture from Vogue for inspiration.

Painted Metallic Mirror - Silver Octagon Mirror

I love mirrors.  They just give light and life to any place.  You can always make room for them.

This one, is a Goodwill find for $5.  It was originally a weird whiteish goldish color.  So I got out the spray paint, right out of the garage, and sprayed it to match the hardware on my daughter's dresser, and vanity/desk.  I love it.  Now to get it to her, or hold it until she relocates.  Either way, it will look great with her furniture.

This great hardware is waiting for me to refinish her nightstands.  Better get on it soon.
Now for the weekend.  To make a veggie garden or not?  Drought here in the Southwest, so........
Oh, and to make more jewelry for my store.  Click the Etsy link on the left.  Lots of great things and prices.

Make it a great day.
