Bel Book and Candle - Love Old Movies

I love old movies. This Sunday I was pleasantly rewarded with a Turner Classic Movie, Bell Book and Candle. With turquoise being the color of the year, I couldn't resist this post. I loved the muted turquoise used on the walls and in the pillows of the movie. If you have never seen it, the movie is definitely worth a peek. Enjoy.

Sorry don't know where this group of photos is from, but they are great screen shots.

Old House -- Old Doors

Although I love the color and style of this bathroom. It really is the door to the right I am blogging about. I have an old 1947 house with theese doors. Mine are painted a stark semi gloss white. However, I wonder, how they would look if I countrified (not really a word) them. Or, would people worry about peeling paint? I also love the old rusted medicine cabinet. I have one of those in my mudroom bathroom. Not on purpose mind you, just haven't gotten around to changing it. Maybe, I will make it a focal point in that room. I now have about 15 projects. Now, if I can just finish some of them.

Desks, Desks, Desks, Home Offices

I am still contemplating my husband's home office. It has a concrete desk, an antique armoire and a lot of junk in it. So I was looking at various home offices. I know these are mostly female, but I was just trying to get some inspiration. I am stumped on his office. So enjoy the finds. Most of these pictures were from old magazine files.

Laurie Smith's Office. I love the mix of objects as well as the mirror in the room.

Love this Skirted Desk in this office. I don't know where this picture is from. Not practical for a guy, but love it anyway.

Kelly Wearstler's Home Office. This one is my favorite, love the colors, the mirror, everything.

Turquoise in Interiors

Turquoise is making it big in interiors for 2010. Here in the Southwest, turquoise is used in lots of interiors. The photo below is from House Beautiful and shows amazing turquoise shutters. Will you use a hint of turquoise in your house this year?

Photos below are from HGTV Dream Home 2010 in New Mexico, where a hint of turquoise is used in each room.

Red Pottery Barn Side Table -- Repurposing Old Table

I love the red side table from Pottery Barn. (Image from Pottery Barn). I have a table I am thinking of repurposing in either Black or Red. Can't decide.

My Pottery Barn style side table. I am thinking of doing in a washed black or red. Any thoughts?

Unusual Curtain Rods -- Latillas -- Wood Poles

Here in the Southwest, Latillas, pronounced, La-te-yas, are everywhere. People use them as ladders against houses, (for looks only). Well, we used ours as curtain rods. They were about $7.00 each, way less expensive than a 109" rod, and we love the casual draping of the curtains, and the kind of loose uneven hem it creates on the rod.

We purchased, and sanded them, so the drapes would slide easily. In this old 1947 house, mini blinds or cellular shades were not an option, as the windows have a slight cove, and aren't exactly, perfectly, square. So, this was our option. We love it. What are you using as a creative curtain rod?

White Rooms - Leather Chairs

In the process of painting my house a stark white. I absolutely love it. This room is patterned after a Pottery Barn Room. You know I love Pottery Barn. The paint on the mantle of the fireplace, is the Ralph Lauren, Suede in a dark brown. This is an old house built in 1947 with cove ceilings, and hardwood floors. Now, what to do with a semi non-working fireplace. It needs some decoration, but it drops dust, so whatever is in there has to be able to withstand that. Hmmm.

Bookshelves - In dining rooms - Alberto Pinto

These amazing bookshelves are in a dining room designed by Alberto Pinto. I saw these over at Mrsblandings.blogspot. I love bookshelves. I have them in a wall in my family room. However, as it is January, that means renovating and redoing in my house. For some reason, everything just seems stale. So when I saw this amazing picture I fell in love. You see I have a long dining room covered in art instead of bookshelves and I (for just a minute) thought about bookshelves in there. But, alas, I already have several renovation projects started. One is painting the whole house a stark white, (tomorrow's post). So fellow bloggers, are you renovating this month?

Claudette Colbert & Fred MacMurray "The Egg and I"

I love old movies. Especially when they are restoring old houses. This one "The Egg and I", is a classic. It stars Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray, restoring an old farm house and starting an egg farm. It is a true black and white classic, right down to all the characters.

Years ago when my daughter was young we raised our own "Dirty Dozen" of Araucana Chickens with the great blue-green eggs. They were tons of fun and were oh so friendly. I will have to dig up an old pic just for grins and giggles. They were raised from baby chicks to full grown adults. Homemade chicken coup and all in our barn.

So, if you want a relaxing fun afternoon, watch "The Egg and I". You won't be disappointed.
