Frozen Fruit Ice Cubes

Ice cubes with fruit in them.  Fancy and tasty.
I know you are wondering what to do with all that fresh summer fruit.
Chop it up and put it in ice cubes, use in any drink.  When the ice melts you have
yummy fruit at the bottom.

Festive, fun, fancy.

These are great added to any beverage.
Enjoy.

Pumpkin Pie Cocktail

I love all things pumpkin. A few years ago, at a neighborhood bar the hubs and I had a marvelous pumpkin pie cocktail. Recipe below.

You could put in a martini glass, ours was just served in a tall cocktail glass. Any would do.

1 Tablespoon canned pumpkin pie mix (you can use canned pumpkin, it just isn't as sweet).
2 oz 1/2 and 1/2
2 oz vodka
1 oz spiced rum

Mix pumpkin and 1/2 and 1/2 with whisk.
Pour ice in a glass and add vodka and spiced rum. Then and pumpkin mixture, and stir.

If choosing a martini glass. Mix ice vodka and rum in a shaker, then add pumpkin mixture and shake, strain into martini glass.

Go as fancy or simple as you would like, by rimming the glass with sugar, or topping with whipped cream and a shake of cinnamon.

Enjoy.

Bethenny Frankel -- Cocktail Friday

No secret I love Bethenny Getting Married? So I surfed on over to her website today:

http://www.bethenny.com

It is perfect for my Cocktail Fridays. They don't have her Skinny Girl Margaritas here in the south. So, I wanted to order or make some. Imagine my pleasure when she had a YouTube Video on being a Fixologist. That's her fancy word for mixologist, but fixing it so a Skinny Girl can have a cocktail. Love it. I love it soooo much, I am making the Skinny Girl Cosmo tonight.

Vodka, Club Soda, Splash of Cranberry, 1/2 Lime. Yum.

So, if you haven't checked out her website, do. Worth the time.

Frozen Swirl Margaritas

Both Swirl pictures found on flickr. Great Swirl Pics.

Having lived all over the southwest, and loving a good margarita, I thought one last margarita post was in order. When living in Austin we used to go to a fun restaurant called Chuy's. Tex-mex with the most fun Swirl frozen Margaritas.

So for this Saturday try some of your own. With or without alcohol they are a fun summer drink.

Two ways to do this.

1 - make both traditional and strawberry in blender then pour half in to glass and top with other half. This takes a little practice so they don't mix.

2 - make both traditional and strawberry regularly - not in blender, then put the liquid in a shallow 3" square or rectangle plastic container and freeze like ice cream. This works with alcohol only, as alcohol won't freeze all the way. When ready to serve, just scoop out with an ice cream scoop and drop into glasses, one of each flavor.

As always, please drink responsibly. Never Drink and Drive.

Seven Layer Dip - Margaritas

On Fridays the hubs and I usually sit on the back porch and swim and have Nachos and Margaritas. Watching a rerun of Swingtown they mentioned Seven Layer Dip. I thought, I must have. So this Friday it is Seven Layer Dip and Margaritas.

For my Margaritas I either use Baja Bobs Margarita Mix, or Jose Cuervo's Mix. Then I use good old Patron Tequila, and a squeeze of orange.

For my Seven Layer Dip, smashed and refried black beans, hamburger meat, sour cream, guacamole, scallions, cheese, and pico de gallo.
YUM.

What are you doing this friday?

The Gimlet - Gin Cocktails - Summer Retro Cocktail

The Gimlet Cocktail is everywhere!! I was watching an episode of Mad Men and January Jones's character ordered a Gimlet. I was watching Swingtown and they ordered a Gimlet. Then I started reading Julie & Julie and Julie ordered a Gimlet. Gimlets are everywhere. A Gimlet can be made with Vodka or Gin, and appears to be developed by Rose's Lime Juice. So as a humpday quest, I think I will be learning to make a Gimlet.

Gimlet
1 1/2 oz Gin or Vodka
1/2 oz Rose's Lime Juice
Garnish with Lime

Put in a shaker 1/2 filled with ice, shake well and serve in a Martini Glass or serve over ice in a Highball Glass

Sounds yummy. Don't know if I will try Gin or Vodka. Hmmm.
Please Drink Responsibly. Do Not Drink And Drive!!!

muddle mint and sugar in a coctail glass

1 shot of your choice of Rum

Enjoy

As with any cocktail, please drink responsibly. Never drink and drive.
