I like to use unusual lighting. The light over my dining room table is an outdoor lighting fixture used indoors, and hung low. I love the shadows it casts on my dining room.
This is actually Christmas Bulb Lighting, hung around my patio for outdoor lighting. Target also has them this time of year in the garden section. I hung them tight all around the patio, however, you can also hang them as a swag, for a more European look.
The curtains, are poly curtains from Walmart, 2 to a pack, and work well outdoors.
